Q&A: If I Get to Mina late Whilst on Hajj, is the Sunna Fulfilled?
Question: If one is delayed due to traffic on the 11th of Dhul Hijjah en route to Mina and as a result only spends a few hours instead half of the night is his stay in Mina stay still valid.
Answer: Bismillah.
Whilst on the hajj pilgrimage, spending the nights in Mina on the tenth and eleventh of Dhu’l Hijja is an emphasised sunna (sunna mu’akkada).
This sunna is validly fulfilled by being present in Mina for most of the night, namely, between sunset (maghrib) and dawn (fajr).
Of course, if a person has an excuse to be there for less than that amount of time, such as sickness or the like, then there is no offensiveness (karaha).
At any rate, its omission altogether does not require an expiation, nor does it affect the validity of the pelting or the hajj itself because the act itself is a sunna.
And Allah knows best.
