Q&A: Is My Fast Invalidated if Some Powder Went into my Nose?
Question: A person is fasting (nafil fast). When preparing a drink from flavour powder (Tang powdered drink), some of the powder dispersed in the air and entered the person’s nose accidentally. Would it break the fast?
Answer: Bismillah.
If the powder was perceptible in the air, and it was subsequently inhaled into the nose, the fast would be invalidated if the powder reached all the way inside whereby it would have proceeded to enter your throat.
Its entering into your nose to such a degree is improbable — unlike steam or smoke — unless the amount of powder which formed such a body was fairly significant. Accordingly, a person may normally assume validity.
However, if the person was not conscious of the fast at this time, or they were not able to avoid inhaling the powder, no makeup would be due whatsoever.
And Allah knows best.
