This is the first stage of a five-stage program which will take students through a formal, detailed, and holistic study of the Hanafi school via a pedagogically sound and structured curriculum. The carefully curated works chosen for the program focus on instilling a strong, principled, and in-depth understanding of the Hanafi school in every participant. You can learn more about the program here.
In the Foundations Level, students will learn about the early development of Islamic Sacred Law (fiqh), with particular reference to the Hanafi school, and they will also learn about the lives of the eponymous founder and his main students. The introduction to Legal Theory via the Mabadi’ fi ‘Ilm Usul al-Fiqh gently apprises students of basic terminology with examples, leaving the details for later levels. Babarti’s Irshad al-Mustarshidin consists of a section on beliefs in accordance with the Hanafi-Maturidi tradition, and a central section covering essential fiqh from basic worship to the ethics of daily living. The specialised text for this level is the Khulasat al-Kaydani which will provide detailed guidance to students on the rules of prayer. The reading of The Forty Hanafi [Reports] will introduce a student to traditions (ahadith) which clearly support Hanafi precedent and practice. Finally, students will study the proper manners of students of sacred knowledge through a reading of the classical manual, Taʿlim al-Mutaʿallim.
